Barista initiative

"The initiative to enhance value addition from farm to final presentation led authorities under the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) to implement training programs for individuals interested in becoming coffee baristas. Over time, these efforts have deepened understanding of the coffee consumer market, fostering greater engagement and awareness. As a result, Uganda has made significant strides—not only in meeting global coffee demand but also in boosting local interest in coffee consumption and promoting better farming practices among coffee growers.

To sustain innovation in Uganda’s coffee industry, the barista profession has become a crucial link between consumer preferences and farming practices.

By providing market insights throughout the value chain, baristas have encouraged farmers to adopt innovative techniques, creating new economic opportunities within the service sector.

This ongoing progress has strengthened multiple economic sectors, further elevating Uganda’s standing in the global coffee market.

Fortunately, Uganda is among the few regions blessed with ideal climate conditions that produce some of the world’s finest coffee profiles."
